The Best of Barbara Mandrell & The Mandrell Sisters

FAIRFAX, VA ¬ October 23, 2006 -- Time Life announces the release of The Best of Barbara Mandrell & The Mandrell Sisters to DVD for the very first time. NBC¹s top-rated, award-winning variety show, produced by Sid & Marty Krofft (H.R. Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost, Donny & Marie), originally aired over two seasons (1980-1982) and starred talented singers and accomplished country musicians Barbara, Louise and Irlene Mandrell. The Best of Barbara Mandrell & The Mandrell Sisters DVD arrives in stores January 9, 2007 and includes the best moments from both seasons with 44 musical performances by Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Dolly Parton, Ray Charles, Alabama, Glenn Campbell, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, the Statler Brothers, the Charlie Daniels Band, Ray Stevens and many more. The Best of Barbara Mandrell & The Mandrell Sisters two-disc DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $24.95, and strongly supported by a direct response television campaign beginning November 27th.

Barbara Mandrell became a household name in 1980 when the perky blonde dynamo won her second consecutive Entertainer of the Year prize at the Country Music Association Awards. With her two multi-talented and beautiful younger sisters Louise and Irlene, Barbara sang, danced and joked her way to stardom as the host of NBC¹s prime-time hour long series. Country music¹s biggest stars appeared on the program and regularly joined the Mandrells for a rousing medley of inspirational songs to close the show. Barbara¹s band, the Do-Rites, provided the musical support, with comic spot duty assigned to Truck Shackley & the Texas Critters, the life-sized Krofft country pickers.

Barbara Mandrell & the Mandrell Sisters was 100% American, good music and clean fun and it connected with the television audience. Garnering a massive 40 million viewers a week, the Barbara Mandrell & The Mandrell Sisters hour-long variety show was also a hit among critics, earning a combined eleven Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominations over its short two year run. The show ended at the height of popularity when Barbara admittedly became overwhelmed by her intense schedule and other commitments.
