THE COMPLETE SERIES
Also Starring Cloris Leachman and Martin Mull, the DVD Features 18 Episodes Including 6 Never-Before-Aired Shows
Culver City, Calif. (May 1, 2006) - Emmy® Award-winning comedienne Ellen DeGeneres arrives on DVD July 11 in the comedy series The Ellen Show: The Complete Series. With a stellar supporting cast including Academy Award® and Emmy Award winner Cloris Leachman (The Last Picture Show, TV's "Mary Tyler Moore Show," "The Facts of Life") and Martin Mull (TV's "Roseanne"), the three-disc set features all 18 episodes including 6 shows never-before-aired. The set will be available for $29.95 SRP from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
When her high-profile, high-finance start-up Internet company goes belly up, Ellen Richmond (DeGeneres) leaves the big city to return to her small town roots. She nabs a job as a counselor at her old high school and moves in with eccentric mother (Leachman) and unlucky-in-love sister (Emily Rutherfurd from Elizabethtown). Ellen becomes reacquainted with her senior prom date, Rusty (Jim Gaffigan from TV's Comedy Central), who thinks they can pick up where they left off (although she's a lesbian), and her befuddled high school teacher, Mr. Munn (Mull). Although a world of experience separates them, Ellen slowly begins to adjust to a very different way of life she thought she left long ago.
The Ellen Show debuted on CBS on September 24, 2001, as a follow-up to her landmark series Ellen, which aired on ABC from 1994-1998. Onetime standup comedienne DeGeneres, who currently hosts the popular syndicated daytime talk show "Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show," made her TV series debut in 1989 in the role of the caustic receptionist in "Open House." In 1997, Ellen made television history as the first series star to come out of the closet as a lesbian, declaring in a Time Magazine cover story "Yep, I'm Gay," followed by a TV episode in which she also came out.
Guest stars on The Ellen Show include Mary Tyler Moore (Ordinary People, TV's "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"), John Ritter (TV's "Three's Company," "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter"), Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds, Hide and Seek, Nine Lives), Betty White (TV's "The Golden Girls," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"), Maureen McCormick (TV's "The Brady Bunch") and renowned fashioned photographer Herb Ritts.
