HBO VIDEO REVISITS THE BIRTH OF PUBLIC SCHOOL DESEGREGATION IN A POWERFUL NEW DOCUMENTARY MARKING A CIVIL RIGHTS MILESTONE

LITTLE ROCK CENTRAL HIGH: 50 YEARS LATER

Filmmakers Brent and Craig Renaud Focused their Cameras on America's Most Historically Significant High School to Examine the Current State of Racial Integration

IN-STORES OCTOBER 30

NEW YORK, NY - In 1957, Little Rock Central High became a symbol of the struggles and hopes of the Civil Rights Movement, when nine African-American students were prevented from entering the building by an angry mob of whites. After 50 years, this event remains as a stark reminder of the steps that still need to be made toward equality. LITTLE ROCK CENTRAL HIGH: 50 YEARS LATER, a new DVD from HBO Video, is an eye-opening look at racial equality, education, and class at the landmark high school today, where educational equality continues to remain elusive. LITTLE ROCK CENTRAL HIGH: 50 YEARS LATER, which makes its HBO network premiere on September 25, will debut on DVD October 30, for the suggested retail price of $24.98.

For many Americans, the 1957 showdown between Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus and President Eisenhower over the desegregation of public schools is merely a chapter in the history books. Yet, 50 years later, the modern day students of Little Rock Central High live in the wake of this historic event, growing up amidst complex race, class and socio-economic issues. Today, though the school is desegregated, some say it is still not fully integrated. Filmmakers Brent and Craig Renaud (Off to War, Dope Sick Love) began filming their intimate documentary, following present day students and faculty, along with community leaders, as Little Rock Central High and the nation prepared for the 50th Anniversary of the famous Integration Crisis of 1957. Also interviewed is one of the original "Little Rock Nine," who reflects on how much -- and how little -- has changed since she courageously crossed the school's steps nearly half a century ago.

Sharing the moving stories and reminiscences of both black and white students, LITTLE ROCK CENTRAL HIGH: 50 YEARS LATER, reveals the opportunities and challenges facing our country both in, and outside, the classroom.
