Little Women was first published in 1868, and has remained in print ever since. Approximately one-third of all girls today read the delightful story of the four sisters, Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth March. Set in New England during the Civil War, Little Women chronicles the lives and loves of the March sisters - Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth - who after their father leaves for battle, must rely on each other for strength in the face of tragedies both large and small. Written from the point of view of the tomboyish sister, Jo, the story is based on Alcott's own experiences as a young woman in Concord, Massachusetts growing up with her own three sisters.
