This is the groundbreaking British crime drama whose two word "catch phrase" signaled the end for many a London criminal. The complete first series will be released under the International Voyage label and will be available on a four-DVD set for the SRP of $34.98. The announcement was made today by Jeff Hayne, Director of Acquisitions, BCI.

"The Sweeney" is Cockney rhyme-slang for London's Flying Squad (Sweeney Todd/Flying Squad) - an elite police force swooping down on organized crime's worst offenders. Detective-Inspector Jack Regan (John Thaw - "Chaplin", "Kavanagh QC", "Inspector Morse") is a tough, unorthodox cop who believes that the end justifies the means - any means. His partner is Detective Sergeant George Carter (Dennis Waterman - "New Tricks" and "Stay Lucky"), whose ideals inevitably collide with Regan's harsh realities. Together they head a group of detectives: overworked on the job, often underhanded in their methods.
Depicting a police force cracking under the strain of keeping within the law, while trying to uphold it, "The Sweeney" influenced such streetwise American programming as "NYPD Blue", "CSI" and "The Shield". As this program tells its crime stories, never smoothing over the raw edges of London's grim backstreets - you too will be arrested by "The Sweeney"!
