Los Angeles, CA - BCI, a Navarre Corporation Company, proudly announces the July 17th release of the classic Western series, "Wanted: Dead Or Alive, Season Two". The complete second season - all 32 drama-filled episodes - will be available on a four-DVD set for the suggested retail price of $39.98. The announcement was made today by Cliff MacMillan, Director of Acquisitions, BCI.
"We are thrilled to present the long-awaited release of the second season of this popular series," MacMillan stated. "Besides introducing a new type of character to the Western genre, "Wanted: Dead Or Alive" also introduced a new talent that would soon become an icon: Steve McQueen."
1958 was a watershed year for Steve McQueen (The Thomas Crown Affair, The Sand Pebbles, The Towering Inferno). It marked his transition from a role as a teen in a sci-fi movie (The Blob) to the more thoughtful, mature role as Josh Randall - bounty hunter of the Old West in "Wanted: Dead Or Alive". His job was one associated with men who were typically coarse, cruel and careless. But Josh was an unexpected gentleman, giving half - if not all - of his reward money to charity. He was a silent figure, wearing on his belt the modified Winchester rifle he fondly called his "Mare's Laig". Such was the popularity of the program that reproductions of this rifle became collector's items and his catch phrase, "Let's go," found its way into the parlance of classic Western programs.
In the second season, current and future stars would also come along for the ride: DeForest Kelley ("Star Trek"), Lon Chaney Jr. (The Wolf Man), Lee Van Cleef (The Good, The Bad & The Ugly), John Dehner (The Boys From Brazil), Dyan Cannon ("The Practice"), Warren Oates (The Wild Bunch), Wayne Rogers ("M.A.S.H."), Martin Landau ("Mission Impossible"), John Carradine (The Grapes of Wrath), Beverly Garland ("Lois & Clark") and Claude Akins ("In The Heat Of The Night").
"Wanted: Dead or Alive" created an anti-hero which flew in the face of the stereotypical, rough-hewn cowboy of 1950's Westerns. It launched the career of another anti-hero, Steve McQueen. With its innovative combination of sympathetic characters and rugged adventure the drama was never more real. In "Wanted: Dead or Alive, Season Two" the exploits of Josh Randall continue, for good or bad, for better or worse, as he hunts his quarry: Dead or Alive!
